Oak Rock
Animal Preserve
San Ramon, CA
A family-run and veterinarian-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization
focused on providing a permanent sanctuary for animals
Our Mission
We adopt various species of unwanted animals and allow them to live the rest of their lives in peace and tranquility. We also educate the community on required care of these animals to improve outcomes for animals like the ones we adopt.
Our Vision
Through adoption, sanctuary, and education efforts, we envision a world where there are fewer rehomed and unwanted animals so they can live out their lives in a permanent home with stability, love and comfort. We do not adopt with intent to breed, nor use the animals for meat.
History
The Rankin family (Wendi, Jon and 4 daughters) founded Oak Rock Animal Preserve in November 2022. The Rankins have always focused on helping the community: they have welcomed children into their home as a foster family, they adopt cats and dogs from rescues/shelters, and they raise their 4 girls to value the importance of helping animals and people.
After regularly hiking through Morgan Territory (Danville, CA), Jon (retired mechanical engineer) and Wendi (veterinarian) wished to help preserve the natural species in the area and other animals in need, and in 2022, they found a location next to Morgan Territory to start an animal rescue. Part of Oak Rock Animal Preserve is a natural protected habitat for native California plant and animal species that the public can enjoy. The Rankins intend to welcome unwanted animals into their lives as members of the family.
In Memoriam
Oak Rock Animal Preserve is dedicated to Wendi’s dad - Eduardo Velando (1941-2020) - who always had a dream of buying land and rescuing all the animals he could.
