The Doves
Doves are in the family Columbidae like pigeons. But doves are smaller than pigeons and have different behaviors. Doves and pigeons can't be housed together because of their communication styles, so we have a separate aviary for the doves, near the pigeons.
Chauncey
Chauncey is a ring-necked dove who came to us in March 2024. He'd been living in a flock of 5 with a bird rescuer. He loves to coo, making it feel like we're in Hawaii listening to the feral doves in a tropical location. He is bonded to Churro.
Chile
Chile came to us in March 2024, bonded to Chompers. Chile is a sweet, tame dove who will let you catch him and will sit on your hand, if he's in the mood for it.
Chompers
Don't let Chompers' name fool you; she is a very docile dove who lets you hold her and doesn't fly away from you. She came to us in March 2024 with her flockmates, and is bonded to Chile.
Chuckles
Chuckles is a ring-necked dove who came to us in March 2024, after living with a bird rescuer who was having trouble caring for them as she aged. We knew Chuckles was his name on the drive home when we picked him up: the whole way home, he made sounds like he was laughing at everyone. We love waking up to his sounds in the morning, as he seems to be starting every morning with a good belly laugh.
Churro
Churro came to us in March 2024 from a bird rescuer, and is paired with Chauncey. She loves floofing up in the sun and snoozing.
Indy
Indy came to us via Oakland Animal Services in July 2024. He was found as a stray, and covered in lice. We had room in our dove aviary and added him to our flock after his intensive lice treatment.
